Nirmala Palaniappan (NP)

by Nirmala Palaniappan
(Bangalore)

NP is passionate about Knowledge Management (KM) and has been into it for close to 9 years now. (Her other areas of expertise and interest include Business Analysis, Process Improvements, Branding/Advertising and Strategic Planning.)

NP has conceived a KM framework, methodology and a toolkit which has been filed for patent in the US. She has also designed a KM system that has blogs as a single window to knowledge. She is currently a Senior KM Manager with Oracle and is responsible for KM strategy and implementation for Oracle, Asia Pacific Regions.

She was earlier a lead KM consultant at Wipro and was a key player in a strategic KM consulting assignment win. The project was awarded by a leading Utility company in UK and was executed by a team of 6 people led by NP as the Principal Consultant and Project Manager. Apart from this project, she also worked on a few other smaller KM assigments involving KM Strategy, Document Management and the like. Prior to becoming a customer-facing consultant, she was responsible for KM Strategy & execution for a business unit that was 4000 people strong. Her work on KM Strategy involved understanding KM links with business strategy, culture, KM training, process improvements from the KM perspective, as well as the conceptualization, design and testing of KM applications.

She started her career in a small company (CG-Smith Software) as the KM Lead and that was where she fell in love with the subject. She also got a golden opportunity to create an Intranet and lead a team for developing it from scratch, while at CG-Smith. This remains one of her most memorable and cherished achievements till date.

She has authored and presented several KM papers at national and international conferences on KM implementation, Collaboration, Toolkits, and Blogging.

One of her goals is to be an influential KM thought leader and she also hopes to write a book on KM...
